pa|lo|lo «puh LOH loh», noun.

any one of several marine worms that burrow in coral reefs of tropical seas, the posterior parts of which, when mature, separate from the anterior parts and rise in swarms to the surface to spawn. One species is found in West Indian waters, another in the south Pacific, where it is gathered for food by the natives.
